Day 97: Russo's
Today marked the first day of the last week of Jack-in-the-Box, the official nickname of our household. While our lease ends at the end of August, this is the last week of all members being present at once. Jack, P and I will be there till the end -- Z and V leave this week for Japan. (Z first -- he's coming back mid-August, but it won't be the same w/o V.)
To commence the celebrating, I decided to cook a full meal in my kitchen for the first time (apart from baking and the occasional heating of pasta it's been fairly untouched by my hands). In the end, this meal was really cooked by Z and some excellent sous-chef guests, but I'll take credit for telling people when and how to cook what.
The menu included lots of veggies, so Z and S and I headed to Russo's after work, in Watertown. Silly me, I had forgotten it closes insanely early (7p, tonight), so it involved a bit more work than usual as we traipsed around the already-closed bins of herbs and veggies inside and out. Luckily the staff is super-friendly and helpful and let us paw away at the already-packed-away fare.
After a quick stop at Trader Joe's to get a few unfindables, we headed back to commence preparing the trifecta of:
Asparagus and Avocado Salad
Scalloped Potatoes and Fennel [THIS WAS INCREDIBLE.]
Provençal Bok Choy
Was a great evening cooking with the roomies and friends. And reminds me that I want to go back to Watertown for some more vegetable scavenging!
